A Little More Leg Room

I really like this 1940's school desk and chair that I spotted yesterday in Hindsvik's shop.
I doubt it'll stay there long. If I lived in the States I'd be tempted, it's the kind of furniture I love, just for decoration. It would be no good for any of my three children, however.

Dylan (14), in particular, has been eating his greens, you see. Lots of them, infact. So much so that he now towers above his father and I and has long since stopped borrowing our socks ( size 47 shoe and growing fast...). I'm fairly tall (1.73m) but have to look up to talk to him (currently standing at 1.88m!). This is all very well if you're into basketball but it's starting to pose a problem at home. Thank goodness for our high ceilings!

We've just had to buy Dylan a double bed and are now trying to find a long-term solution to the desk situation. Sitting down at any table has indeed become a problem, no leg room you see (you should have seen the poor kid on a plane in the Summer!).

We're thinking of trying this DIY industrial-looking desk I found in the latest issue of Milk Magazine. What do you think? Anyone have any other ideas? I'd LOVE to know.

Bees

Do any of you keep bees, I wonder?
I know Sarah does, and she takes beautiful photos.

One of our neighbours has been keeping bees for over 30 years. We buy our honey from him and are now thinking about keeping some of our own. Well, I say " we", it's Dominique's idea actually...

Beehives can be very inspirational.
I came across a nice pink beekeeper's box in Hindsvik's vintage store a couple of weeks ago. It was soon snapped up of course, but what can you do with such an object apart from displaying it?

Bruyère Curieuse has some nice ideas on her blog.
You may even find one in her online shop if you're lucky.

I think Imke Klee's "Authentic Beauty" photographs are stunning*.

I would also love to visit the "Honey Bee and the Hive" exhibition, curated by Wendy Ramshaw, showing at Contemporary Applied Arts, London (26 March-1st May).

"Honey Bee and Hive" brings together the work of twenty eight craftsmen and women inspired by the wonder of the bee. All share a common concern for our dramatically diminishing bee population and have produced unique, useful and decorative objects to share with those who care for both bees and beauty.

Voilà - lots of links to keep you bee-sy, ha! ha!
Back soon with my Five Faves...

Hindsvik

Hindsvik is my kinda shop - full of stylish vintage treasures for kids and the home.
I love their minimal style and clean, fresh photography, proving once again that "less is more".
Keep an eye open for new arrivals, and check out Daniel and Valeria's blog for oodles of home decor and interior design inspiration now!
