Kes

If you have ever read "A Kestrel for a Knave" by Barry Hines (1968) or watched the film adaptation "Kes" by Ken Loach (1969), I think you will understand why I am moved by Lisa Stubbs' new work for an upcoming show at the WYPW.

Born and bred in Yorkshire in the 60's, this is one of my all-time favourite films.
I love Ken Loach's cinema.

"Flat Cap and Whippet" (love!) will run from 23th July to 27th of August at the WYPW.

Rock Pooling

Happy Mother's Day
To all you wonderful mothers around the world
I hope you get plenty of hugs
You deserve them!

Her screenprints capture special family moments
A piggy-back from mum, a kiss from gran, the bien-être of pregnancy

Her latest nine-coloured piece entitled Rock Pooling was inspired by a family trip to the sea and shows her three children, Lil, Sonny and Sky rock pooling on Runswick Bay.

The details are beautiful, I think.

What are your plans for today, anything nice?
Our kids go back to school tomorrow, so we'll be checking homework, tidying up and getting organised for the busy week ahead ( I think we'll time for a barbecue too...).

Enjoy!

Loo, Loo, Skip To My Loo

It's been a while since I found anything really interesting for my school artwork feature (although I love the paintwork here).
After eleven weeks, Lisa Stubbs has just put the finishing touches to her daughter's mermaid school loo mural. It's her first attempt, doesn't it look great?
You can see all the different stages of her work here, and perhaps keep an eye out for her boys' pirate-themed makeover starting soon...

Skyla's ABC

I love paying a visit to artist Lisa Stubb's blog Lilsonnysky. Lisa lives in Yorkshire, nor far from my home town so I always feel as if I'm dipping back into my childhood and catching up with local news, even if I've lived in France for 23 years...
Last night I came across this beautiful ABC book that Lisa made for her daughter Skyla's 6th birthday. It was supposed to be a surprise but Skyla caught her mum working on it one night and it ended up being a joint project. Just had to share some photos of this wonderful keepsake with you...
