Let's Pretend

This is the kind of thing I love - Let's Pretend, a beautiful Book-A-Toy from the 40's written by Plowitz and Hansl.
I found it over at NeatToKeen, a treasure trove of a shop, chock-full of graphically-appealing vintage books, linen and objects.

One to check out if you're looking for some vintage illustration inspiration!

Singing Games For Children

Singing Games for Children, Alice P Hamlin & Margaret G. Guessford, 1941

Sorry folks I seem to be having a bit of a vintage book binge today!
Just had to pop in and show you this little gem I found on etsy, looks fun!

If you have time, look at these two vintage covers on my Tumblr
and, Grain edit have just added some nice vintage children's books and posters to their etsy shop.

It's all happening, n'est-ce pas!

Etsy Finds - Fly Me To The Moon

Mr B. finally has a telescope and as we live in the country light pollution is minimal. We have a huge covered balcony so star-gazing has become one of our favourite family activities.
I'm seriously behind with my Christmas shopping, but I'm confident that I'll find what I want at Nature et Decouvertes, a wonderful French shop selling  original, educational toys and books for kids, amongst other things (I think Miles would quite like to dress up as an astronaut).
If you live in the US (a bit late for shipping elsewhere) there are some really nice vintage science books for children on etsy. I love these school books from the 50's and 60's and am gradually building up quite a nice collection of them at home. If you don't mind a few library stickers and cards, the illustrations in these books are fabulous!

This is a Man's World

As always, I had planned to do a grand tour of Ilkley's charity shops (definitely worth a trip up north, for this reason alone!). Alas, no rummaging for me!
Luckily though, as compensation for playing Florence Nightingale for Miles, Dylan and Mr B all weekend, a kind lady sent me some photos of a wonderful vintage book collection she found thrifting in London last week. I'm amazed that you can still find gems like these!
Spiffing - n'est-ce pas ?
