ReVinyl

How about one of these fun clocks from
ReVinyl to add a modern touch to a kid's room?
Eye-catching and smart - a great way to teach them those three magic words:

Reuse-Reduce-Recycle!

A Cardboard Kingdom

I fell in love with the original, if you remember, but I'm sure lilla a's cardboard design will provide just as many hours of fun. Why not print out her templates and help your children make and decorate their own? Something for a rainy day perhaps?

Enjoy!

Kirsty Loves Cardboard

Melbourne-based artist and architect Kirsty Fletcher loves cardboard, and I love what Kirsty does with it!

Especially since her sculptures and collages are often made from reclaimed packaging and ephemera such as beer cartons, boxes, met-cards and salvaged objects.

And especially since her work frequently features kinetic moving parts

I think my favourite piece is Heading Home (for Mum's birthday), a small-scale cardboard sculpture depicting one of her most treasured experiences. You can read about it here.

I hope you'll enjoy exploring her blog as much as I did, and give Kirsty a shout if you're interested in anything, some of her work is for sale.

Ana Moraes

Will you just look at these wonderful sculptures by Brazilian artist Ana Moraes!
Made entirely from trash, Ana's colourful characters put a smile on my face this morning (which takes some doing at 5am...)
Yet another example of amazing art made from seemingly worthless scrap. Unbelievable what you can do with a few pieces of wire, some fabric, buttons and thread!
I have to say it, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! Please.

A big thanks to Meninheira!

Lyons, Capstan & Dog Foods

As you all know, Monday is the day we celebrate colour on Kickcan & Conkers, so, I thought we'd kick off the week with Rupert Blanchard.
If you like the industrial look, hop over to Elemental to see his new laminated cupboards incorporating sections of enamelled steel advertising signs. Another wonderful example of what you can do with those three magic words
Reduce - Reuse- Recycle!

Positively Beautiful

Just look at these amazing wall vases!
Jane Schouten (a.k.a. All The Luck in The World) made them from the old ceramic humidifiers that Dutch people hang onto radiators. So clever, don't you think?

I've featured the vintage toy side of Jane's business before, and never tire of visiting her beautiful blog. Her recently opened etsy shop is equally as inspiring and colourful, offering little boxes of positivity, tins full of goodies, happy showcases and positive cabinets.

Those three magic Rs again
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

Just what the doctor ordered for those dark winter months!

Reusing Reconstruction

Electric, an accordion fold up book
watercolour, collage, pencil on paper, 2008

Amy Wilson is a woman of many talents. Besides teaching in three different departments at The Visual School of Arts in New York City, she draws, exhibits and makes one-of-a-kind and small edition books, such as the one shown above, which I love.

I have this image of myself reaching up, 2009
watercolour, pencil, collage on paper

Amy shows with BravinLee Programs and recently had a public art installation up surrounding a future children's playground in lower Manhattan.

It Takes Time to Turn a Space Around, 2009-2010
Digital print on a 150-foot vinyl banner, based on an original watercolor drawing created for the space

The installation was part of
Re:Construction, a public art initiative recasting construction sites as canvasses for innovative public art and architecture. It was taken down at the end of April but, thanks to Amy, has been given a new lease of life, and is now available for purchase as handmade tote bags!

Sturdy, waterproof and made of 100% recycled materials (barring the thread used to stitch them together), Amy's bags come with a removable tag that identifies them as being part of the public art project. She'll be making 10 a week until she's repurposed her entire installation and puts them in her shop every Wednesday 7pm EDT.

Art from Art - I like it!
