Dents De Loup Giveaway

Calling all grans, mums, little ones, craft lovers and kids at heart
We have a wonderful giveaway on Kickcan & Conkers today!

Paula is an Argentinian mum of three currently living in Pondicherry, Southern India. Prior to that she lived in Paris and Quito, Ecuador. Some of you may have seen her in this Mother & Child interview on Pirouette a while ago or perhaps over here

Paula loves making toys and has discovered the beauty of colour in India. She started knitting and inventing characters for her children then recently decided to sell her creations on etsy.
Her shop Dents de Loup is named after a Serge Gainsbourg song.

Today Paula is giving away a set of three colorful soft toys, which I think are lovely

Made from cotton yarn, these long-legged dolls are the perfect companion for your little ones. I can imagine many a story being invented about Mr or Mrs Green, Red and Purple Head, can't you? I also think Paula's gift would make a great display feature in a child's room ( I wouldn't mind seeing them by my desk to be honest!).

If you would like a chance to win this set of three handmade dolls

1) Leave a comment below (making sure to leave me an email address)
2) If you spread the news via twitter, facebook or any other means you get two names in the hatI

This giveaway runs until Tuesday 15th March at 6 pm, CET
I will announce the winner the same evening.

A Little Land

I am very impressed by Nalisha Chouraria's Little Land toy. Nalisha designed the boxed set during her fourth year studies in visual communication in Bangalore, India. The Little Land comes in a hinged-box, made by Nalisha, and contains thirty different, beautiful MDF pieces which slot into the lid.
Take a look at Nalisha's blog to learn how she developed the Little Land and send her an email if you're interested in having one made. Very inspiring work, don't you think?

Kangan's Colours

Welcome to the wonderful world
of
Kangan Arora

Oh my, what an amazing eye for colour, patterns and people!

Kangan studied Fashion Design at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, India, and graduated in 2005.
She is involved in several freelance photography projects and has been selling some of her work through Getty Images.

But that's not all...

Last year, Kangan graduated from Central Saint Martins with another BA in Textile Design

I am totally in love with her cushions, combining traditional techniques like hand-embroidery and appliqué with screenprinting.

Her work challenges the common, stereotypical idea of Indian design, and is fun, fresh and quirky.

Kangan is currently working with Lisa Stickley in South London, learning the ropes before she sets up her own business, hopefully. She will be showing a selection of cushions, greetings cards, tea towels and totes (and maybe prints) at Selvedge's Summer Fair in London (26 June).
I hope I can make it - Kanyan's work has that certain je ne sais quoi that makes it stand out from the crowd, I think.
Definitely one to watch!

One Million Giraffes

Pottu/Bindhi Giraffe on Newspaper - The Conversation Compiler

One million giraffes in a year? Can it be done? Norwegian web developer Ola Helland thinks so, in fact he's bet his friend Jorgen that by the end of 2010 he will have collected one million handdrawn / handmade giraffes from around the world, all thanks to the internet.
So far, he's received 826,519!

Just look at these lovely ones sent in by some of the children at the Mumbai Mobile Creche Centre. I love the fact that they were painted on different regional newspapers to celebrate the pluralism of India.
