Trace Ta Route

Trace ta route.
Make your way.
Leave a mark.
Change directions.
Don't look back.
En avant...

I'm working on my speech for The Hive Bloggers' Conference in Berlin next weekend and thinking about how much blogging has changed my life. Kickcan and Conkers has also evolved over the past four years (already!). I'm not sure where it'll be heading in the future, but, oh my, what a journey it has been so far!

Thank you for the inspiration:

Fresh Talent: Chloe Giordano

22 years old, an illustrator, "avid reader, history lover and dreadful knitter",

Bristol-based UWE graduate Chloe Giordano sure knows how to embroider
a beautiful book cover.

In fact, her "One Hundred Years of Solitude" cover has been shortlisted for this year's Penguin Design Awards
(winners to be announced in June 22nd).

I've fallen in love with her handmade soft sculptures, of course, and can't wait until she starts selling her work in her etsy shop.

Remember the name, I think she'll go far.

Andrea Tachezy Giveaway

We go back a long way,  Bear and I.

I knew it was meant to be as soon as I saw him standing there, peeping out.

He's ever-so shy, but when he smiles - ah! I'm smitten!

He introduced me to his friends, small in number but loyal to the core.
Little blue-eared Piti Piti is his favourite chum,
Always smiling, singing and ready to give him a hug.

His rosy-cheeked pals Little Bear and Little Bunny
Are also kinda fun.
They like to play, and tend to cling
But stick around when things get tough.

An inseparable gang
Through thick and thin,
Give it a go,
You might even win...

I never tire of dipping into Andrea Tachezy's world. A teacher, an artist, an illustrator, a maker, her talents are many and varied, her work surprising, playful and endearing. If you take the time to explore Andrea's beautiful blog, portfolio and shop, you will see how much she loves animals, textiles, textures and paper. I find this collection particularly moving, along with these two prints.

If you would like a chance to win this handmade bear card, piti piti soft toy and two bunny and bear badges generously offered by Andrea Tachezy:

1) Leave me a comment below (making sure to leave me an email address)
2) Spread the news via twitter, facebook or any other means and I'll pop two names in the hat (make sure you let me know).

This giveaway runs until Friday 10th June at 6 pm, CET
I will announce the winner the same evening.

Good Luck!

Elen & Mecho

You know I can never resist sharing paper toys, especially when they involve recycling...
Meet Elen and Mecho, Victoria Knysh's paper shoe insert toys.
Fun aren't they? They reminded me of a similar pair I saw last year.

Victoria's textile work in her little shop also made me smile :

Nice finds for a Sunday, hope you like them too.

Bird and Bear

I'm a bit of a hoarder if the truth be known, I keep things just in case, I'm mean, you never know, we might need them one day...
I have a chest full of vintage linen, passed down by my French mother-in-law and many a doily, cushion cover, tea towel, napkin picked up at jumble sales, charity shops and flea markets.
I wish I had the time and patience to hand-embroider and reappropriate them as beautifully as Brooklyn artist Joetta Maue.

Tucked Up Nicely

I don't know about you, but these three photographs of Karen BarbĂ©'s latest commission make me happy. Not only do I love the gorgeous hand-embroidered organic cotton sateen sheets she's designed for a friend's first child, but also the beautiful way in which she's presented them.  I'm not surprised though, everything Karen undertakes is special.
Makes me feel like I'm three years' old, tucked up in bed waiting for a bedtime story. So cosy.

I hope you'll take the time to explore Karen's exquisite blog and shop (currently offering a 15% discount).

Sweet dreams!

Colour My Monday #14

So, it's Monday again and Monday means colour! There's nothing quite like it for putting a spring in your step and shaking of those Monday morning blues!

Today I'd like to invite you into the bright and bold world of Spanish illustrator Amaia Arrazola.

I discovered Amaia's work through the excellent Envelop site, where she is selling a few of her designs.

Winter is my favourite piece I think, and her beautiful pinny is a true work of art. A nice gift idea for the art-loving, creative cooks in your life!

Hasta Pronto Amigos !
