Fresh Talent: Christine Harrison

Happy Sunday!
I hope you are enjoying your weekend.
I came across the illustration portfolio of graphic design graduate Christine Harrison a while ago and really like her circus-themed zoetrope and flick book project. I have a thing for early animation techniques, if you remember, so I couldn't resist sharing her promotional work for Beirut. A nice idea and perhaps, one to keep an eye on.

Fishermen Friends

It's Fresh Talent Friday!
Do you remember Amie Robert's colourful fishermen I featured in my Five Faves a couple of weeks ago? Well, I'm delighted to announce that she has a brand new etsy shop and will gradually be filling the shelves with quirky soft sculptures, cushions, and other surprises.
Amie has recently graduated from UWE (University of West England) with a degree in illustration and is definitely one to watch in the future.

Chair Play

 Tune-Tune Musical Stool

Jo-Yun Wang, a recent graduate from the Master of Fine Art (MFA) in Product Design course at Edinburgh College of Art (ECA), has designed, developed and tested an interesting series of interactive musical chairs named "The Jolly Seat" series. Described as "unique, fun, playful, interesting and beautiful" by the adults and children that took part in the public product testing, Wang's designs are chiefly inspired by her childhood memories of playing and her desire to create products that give joy to their users.

Tune-Tune is an interactive swivel stool that sings to users through movement. Watch this short video, and you will see that young kids love playing with the product and that is has obvious appeal as a unique, colourful seat for an older age group.
Similarly, five caster wheels with integrated music boxes have been added to the Ensemble design. Each caster wheel produces different notes, creating an ensemble for each specific movement. Imagine what fun kids could have with a room full of chairs like this!

Jo-Yun Wang has had a huge response to the Jolly Seat Series (which also includes this wonderful Move-It cushion) and is now working on strategies to implement the product to market as well as seeking out opportunities in the design industry.

One to watch out for me thinks!

I Can Sing a Rainbow

 Good Morning!
How are you today?
Jack Frost is back and it looks like he's here to stay.
Never mind, Debbie Hill's pretty rainbows cheer me up no end.
I hope you enjoy this Brighton-based illustrator / designer's blog  as much as I do!

Ice Blue

I'm sure some of you will really enjoy browsing UK illustrator and designer Alice Rebecca Potter's portfolio. Birds, animals, landscapes and geometric patterns feature strongly in Alice's work and I really love her use of colour. Have a look at her sketch books and plastic bag people, they'll make you smile!

Originally trained in textiles, Alice designs cushions, aprons and totes for Envelop, as well as selling her prints, pendants, badges, pocket mirrors and cards on Etsy.

Alice Rebecca Potter - A nice refreshing find!

Fresh Talent: Anne Massler

I admit that I know very little about ceramic art but Anne Massler's collection of deers really caught my eye at UP Fresh a while ago. Anne is a second year student at the HDK School of Design and Crafts in Gothenberg, Sweden. She is passionate about clay, bursting with ideas and dying to experiment. This is promising work, I'm looking forward to seeing where her enthusiasm takes her!

Fresh Talent: Anna Backlund

Anna Backlund has just graduated from The HDK School of Design and Crafts in Gothenburg, Sweden. I'd love to have seen her final show ...

As part of her Applied Arts Degree Anna worked on a ten-week wallpaper design project. The idea for her collection originated from a funny misunderstanding, a situation her young son had misinterpreted, giving rise to the "Stone and the Owl" story about two people sailing to Chile in a small boat to do some shopping. It takes a long time to sail to Chile from Sweden in a rowing boat so her imaginary tale begins at the start of the last century and ends in the present day. Anna's collection is based on a series of letters written by the adventurous pair and takes into account those left at home.

I love Anna's 3D boxes, shown above, and I'm pleased to see that she opened a small online shop selling her textile designs. Her work was recently exhibited at Upmarket and is currently on display at Naaskonsthantverk.

All she needs now is someone to spot her talent and produce her striking wallpaper designs like this lucky young lady!

Enjoy!
