Work In Progress: Marie Louise Sundqvist

I didn't have time to post my Five Faves last week (although there were a few Mid-Week Picks if that's any consolation?). I think Marie Louise's new characters would have to have been my favourite work in progress - she always makes me smile. What a talented family

A Balancing Act

Good Morning!
I don't know about you, but it's been a long and busy week here.
Are you winding down now, slowly?
I thought we'd start the day with a few soothing images of Caroline Swift's beautiful ceramics and glass installations. So calming and peaceful, perfect eye candy for super mums around the world!

Fresh Talent: Anne Massler

I admit that I know very little about ceramic art but Anne Massler's collection of deers really caught my eye at UP Fresh a while ago. Anne is a second year student at the HDK School of Design and Crafts in Gothenberg, Sweden. She is passionate about clay, bursting with ideas and dying to experiment. This is promising work, I'm looking forward to seeing where her enthusiasm takes her!

Kindergarden Ceramics

French children go back to school tomorrow.
Summer holidays are so much longer here, seems like my three have been at home for months. We're all excited about "la rentrée", and although it's now September, the weather's perfect for trips to the beach at the weekend - la belle vie quoi ! It's the best time of the year, I think.

Talking of school, just look at this beautiful work by Swedish ceramicist Marie-Louise Sundqvist.

Marie has been commissioned to design a series of illustrated ceramic installations for a kindergarden. She has created two large pieces to be displayed in communal areas, a big blue daydream piece, featuring sleeping children on an open book and a pink, more playful piece with juggling animals floating on clouds. Other smaller ceramic wall decorations have been placed around the kindergarden at child height to allow the little ones to touch and feel them.
What a wonderful, happy way to introduce children to art!

If you only look at one portfolio today make it be that of Argentinian artist Adolfo Nigro, un très grand Monsieur. Be warned though, there's a lot to explore and marvel at, especially if you are interested in wooden toys and objects. This has to be one of my most interesting and inspiring finds to date. Enjoy!

Muchas gracias Eleonora!

Creative Christina

My Tumblr seems to becoming very art & design-oriented, and is very different from this blog. I use it to bookmark interesting links a lot of the time and like to go back to explore at a later date. One of my favourite images is this mixed media collage by Christina Romeo. I love it, and I'm always drawn to it whenever I delve into my archive.

I've shown one of Christina's paintings on my blog before, but never her stitched watercolours or art dolls.

I had no idea that she also makes these beautiful handbuilt ceramic pieces either.
Aren't they original?

I've taken some of these photos from Christina's "sold" section, so keep an eye on her shop if you like her style, and do visit her website and flickr photostream for more examples of her inspiring work.
