Give Me Three #43

Yes, back to school soon!

French vintage kids' shop Little Vintage have put together a wonderful collection of old and new school accessories, bags, textbooks, furniture and traditional smocks and aprons from the 50's and 60's. Have a good look at the Little Rentrée section in their shop, it's chock-full of original and affordable items, including these retro writing and maths sets, which I find hard to resist, pas vous

Red, Yellow & Blue

My three kids are too big for these vintage industrial chairs but what a fantastic feature they would make in a nursery, bedroom or play space! Perfect for Colour My Monday, don't you think?

Going, going, gone!

The Ugly Duckling

Good Morning!
I'm in a vintage mood today so I thought we'd celebrate the start of a new week with this Czech children's film poster (1972), on sale here.

Happy Colour My Monday!

Toys

Miles woke up this morning and decided he wanted to build a racing car. Out came the notebook and pencil, plans were sketched over breakfast and then into the garage he went with Papa. I don't think I've ever seen him so determined or excited.

They've worked hard all afternoon and been test-driving for the past half hour. A few more tweaks here and there, a lick of paint perhaps... but what a joy to see! No matter how long it lasts, Miles will remember this special moment for years, I'm sure.

This afternoon spent in the workshop reminded me of a trailer I watched a few weeks ago. Part of a series of documentaries entitled Guide To The Poles, produced by Adam Mickiewicz Institut, "Toys" takes a look at the circumstances which shaped the imaginations of todays generation of Polish artists and designers.

"A comb and a few coins, an elastic band, a few bottle caps..." "What has a greater impact on a child's development - a room full of expensive toys or perhaps no toys at all?"

Food For Thought - n'est-ce pas?

More information about the documentary 'Toys" and vintage Polish toys in general from this excellent blog.

Summer?

I don't know what's happened to our Summer
I've never known it be so cold and cloudy in July
Thank goodness for online inspiration, eh!

I love these three photos from Edmond's gallery

Shop Watch: Du Côté du Design

If you're ever in Nîmes, like us on Saturday, (on holiday perhaps this Summer?) or just like to browse inspiring sites, Du Côte du Design is one for your little black book.

Ideally situated in the historic centre (opposite La Mairie), this eye-catching boutique offers an impressive collection of industrial furniture, Jielde lamps, old school posters and unusual vintage accessories. I fell in love with the long, steel military table and coloured Tolix chairs, and although it's only down the road, will definitely be keeping an eye on their blog and shop for deco inspiration.

Vintage cotton spools, broken dolls and Tintin books, très, très tendance!

 J'aime !

Oh What a Beautiful Morning!

It's sunny
I've been hanging out the washing in our lovely garden
Listening to the birds
Looking for wild lambs lettuce for lunch
Picking up forgotten toys
I'm feeling positive, grateful and happy to be alive

My Image of the Day
The front message on a large, double-sided inspirational flashcard I will be selling in my shop.
I have lots of these, I think they're brilliant.

Onwards and Upwards!
I have lunch to make, advertising rates to sort out and a shop to finish...

Give Me Three #2

I love the industrial look, the older and the scruffier the better.
Not that easy to find real bargains at French fleas these days
But lots of tempting eye-candy

Inspiration: La Vie en Rose

I've fallen head over heels in love (it's the coffee...) with Linda Dacey's collages incorporating vintage French finds.
I've mentioned Linda's little vintage boutique before and am pleased to see her using her artistic talents.
Odd & Old -One to bookmark me thinks.

Parts & Pieces

I have featured Sushipot's beautiful mixed media collages and vintage shop several times on Kickcan & Conkers. Susanna has a wonderful eye for colour and a knack for finding some of the best vintage toys, and capuring them perfectly on camera.
I love her instant collections, including the set of tin spades above, and her latest colour-themed "parts & pieces" sets are no exception.

As suggested by Susanna, these little groupings of found objects are perfect to display in a shadowbox or use in altered art. I certainly think they'd add an unusual touch of colour to any room, as well as providing me with another beautiful image for my tumblr!
