Inspiration: Material Teddy

Porcelain, aluminium, brass, vegetable tanned leather, cinnamon camphora wood, red cedar wood, oil finished leather, cotton and wool - Makiko Shinoda's Material Teddy is made from different natural materials offering children contrasting sensations. Some of the toy parts are heavy, some of them are light, some are warm and soft, others are cold or hard or porous. Taking Teddy to pieces or putting him back together again offers children a new sensory experience, stimulating all five senses.

Material Teddy was designed to stimulate healthy cognitive development. Makiko Shinoda believes "children's nervous systems are disturbed by heavy exposure to artificial flavors, digital images and plastic surfaces. This contributes to a lack of imagination, communication, and spatial perception".  A pure modern toy for an increasingly complex and alienating modern world...
