Fresh Talent: Anna Backlund

Anna Backlund has just graduated from The HDK School of Design and Crafts in Gothenburg, Sweden. I'd love to have seen her final show ...

As part of her Applied Arts Degree Anna worked on a ten-week wallpaper design project. The idea for her collection originated from a funny misunderstanding, a situation her young son had misinterpreted, giving rise to the "Stone and the Owl" story about two people sailing to Chile in a small boat to do some shopping. It takes a long time to sail to Chile from Sweden in a rowing boat so her imaginary tale begins at the start of the last century and ends in the present day. Anna's collection is based on a series of letters written by the adventurous pair and takes into account those left at home.

I love Anna's 3D boxes, shown above, and I'm pleased to see that she opened a small online shop selling her textile designs. Her work was recently exhibited at Upmarket and is currently on display at Naaskonsthantverk.

All she needs now is someone to spot her talent and produce her striking wallpaper designs like this lucky young lady!

Enjoy!

Shop Watch: Little Studio

I'm very impressed by this new, smart Swedish shop that I spotted a few weeks ago via Varpunen. Mamamekko's Little Studio offers an ever-evolving selection of striking and very reasonably priced modern prints for the whole family. I think you'll enjoy her blog too. Both sites are in Swedish but you'll get the gist with Google Translate. Little Studio ships within the EU and Norway and payment is via Paypal.
Definitely worth keeping an eye on I'd say...

Apples & Pears...

...and much, much more!

If you're looking for a striking piece of modern artwork for your home, Isa Form boasts an impressive selection of prints for the entire family. Like many, Swedish graphic artist, illustrator and pattern designer Isabelle Norman Sallstrom decided to set up her own business after having her first child and being disappointed by the lack of personalised art for children. Isa Form's prints come in a range of colours and can be adapted to suit your home interior and colour schemes at an additional cost.

Make sure you check out her portfolio and blog, all chock-full of inspiration, before browsing her online shop. I think you'll love it!
