Fresh Talent: Victoria Whincup

I'd like you to meet Sally, she has a shrew sitting on her head

Ann has a fox on hers but she doesn't mind

They have lots of nice friends
and come from a special place
where pretty flowers grow

Won't you follow me?

Such a joyous find when all is grim...

Freelance illustrator Victoria Whincup graduated from The Cambridge School of Art with a First Class Honours Degree. She draws, paints, sculpts, sews and makes beautiful little books. She sells her work on etsy and is available for commissions and collaborations. Keep an eye on her blog and Society6 for updates, Victoria is putting the finishing touches to some brand new sculptures (badgers!) and is working on an Alphabet book as well as a collection of illustrated poems.
A lovely delicate style - I'm sure she'll go far!

Bewildered Tales

I love Kay Van Bellen's work (you may remember this?), so I was so pleased to see her getting the attention she deserves in Small Magazine last year.
Kay recently opened an online shop selling her beautiful Bewildered Tales art, screenprints, badges, stationary and this gorgeous tea towel.
Go have a gander and treat yourself to a little  something, I bet it will be the start of a very nice, affordable art collection...

I Can Sing a Rainbow

 Good Morning!
How are you today?
Jack Frost is back and it looks like he's here to stay.
Never mind, Debbie Hill's pretty rainbows cheer me up no end.
I hope you enjoy this Brighton-based illustrator / designer's blog  as much as I do!

Ice Blue

I'm sure some of you will really enjoy browsing UK illustrator and designer Alice Rebecca Potter's portfolio. Birds, animals, landscapes and geometric patterns feature strongly in Alice's work and I really love her use of colour. Have a look at her sketch books and plastic bag people, they'll make you smile!

Originally trained in textiles, Alice designs cushions, aprons and totes for Envelop, as well as selling her prints, pendants, badges, pocket mirrors and cards on Etsy.

Alice Rebecca Potter - A nice refreshing find!

Kate Slater

Do you remember our recent trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park? Well, when we arrived, we were greeted by this stunning paper bird installation created by London-based freelance author/illustrator Kate Slater.

Forty-four handmade birds flying across the YSP's shop window - so beautiful!

Kate Slater works with both flat collage and a combination of paper, cut-outs and wire, which she uses to create suspended, relief illustrations. Her 3D work on display inside the shop was one of the freshest, most inspiring things I've seen in a long time.

I bought a couple of really sweet cards and had chance to look at an advance copy of her first children's book, Magpie's Treasure, coming out in November (Andersen Press, available for pre-order here).

Kate has just taken down her exhibition and will be selling any unsold pieces (the giraffe? very special indeed!) in her etsy shop soon. I can see her beautiful picture book being on everyone's Christmas lists in the UK this year so keep your eyes peeled for that, and in the meantime, why not stock up on her few of her card sets, which are perfect for framing and decorating a child's room?

One of my favourite discoveries this year!

Adam Howling

I discovered lots of new artists, illustrators and crafters while I was in England last week.
I bought a card by Adam Howling, a freelance illustrator working for clients in the UK and abroad. Adam is represented in the U.K. by Eye Candy. I love his use of colour, sense of humour and the retro feel in his work.
Have a look at his portfolio and tell me what you think.

Tom Frost

If you're looking for a piece of playful, eye-catching art work, look no further than Bristol-based illustrator Tom Frost. I fell in love with his Bird Puzzles a while ago and am thrilled to learn that he has opened an online shop, offering a selection of cards, screenprints, toys and 3D work. I love his rocket and cars !

Teresa Murfin

If you remember, I fell in love with Teresa Murfin's sweet drawings as soon as I saw them.
How nice they would look in a little girl's room!
Teresa has just opened a shop, so do take a peek. If you're as smitten as I am, I doubt you'll be able to resist!
