Fresh Talent: Victoria Whincup

I'd like you to meet Sally, she has a shrew sitting on her head

Ann has a fox on hers but she doesn't mind

They have lots of nice friends
and come from a special place
where pretty flowers grow

Won't you follow me?

Such a joyous find when all is grim...

Freelance illustrator Victoria Whincup graduated from The Cambridge School of Art with a First Class Honours Degree. She draws, paints, sculpts, sews and makes beautiful little books. She sells her work on etsy and is available for commissions and collaborations. Keep an eye on her blog and Society6 for updates, Victoria is putting the finishing touches to some brand new sculptures (badgers!) and is working on an Alphabet book as well as a collection of illustrated poems.
A lovely delicate style - I'm sure she'll go far!

Spring Time

Don't you just love Liza Rendina's new Spring collection of Little Stars?
Liza was one of my picks in the latest issue of Babiekins Magazine, and someone who I definitely think we will be seeing a lot of in 2011.
Keep an eye on her etsy shop and Yume Store for more of her beautiful creations (her circus troupe in particular), they really are quite wonderful.

Shop Watch: Das Kaninchen

I have been waiting patiently for Shannah Burton to reveal her new Winter collection based on the theme of protection, warmth and healing. Such beauty, such gentleness, so perfect for the dark months that lie ahead.
As many of you know, I've been drawn to that simple but powerful universal symbol the Red Cross of late and DasKaninchen's wares are no exception.

Felt and Wool
Red, White and Grey
Beauty in Simplicity

Shannah's nature-inspired textile art would certainly make a very special gift for someone close to your heart. Let her sleep-travelling rabbits or a herd of elephants watch over your little ones and add a touch of softness to a nursery, a child's bedroom or a play space. And why not treat yourself to your own handmade tissue holder - a lovely stocking-filler don't you think? Gesundheit my friends!

Terracotta Blue

I can't say I'm a huge fan of creepy crawlies but since we moved out into the French countryside we are all very much aware of their presence, along that of our friendly toad, family of jays and couple of squirrels, to name but a few. The cicadas are busy here too. What a noise! Miles has started collecting their transluscent shells, abandoned on trees, grass and the ground. I think we have an entomologist in the making!

Terracotta Blue's bejewelled beetle pillow/soft sculptures caught my eye the other day. I love the colours on these two little fellows. Laura also makes some gorgeous white dragonfly, moth and butterfly ornaments, if you prefer to keep things neutral. I like her delicate urchin brooch.
