The Simplicity of Wood and the Complexity of Nature
Chop, slice, saw
Putting it back together
Takes a little bit more
A beautiful way of making children (and adults) aware of the irregularities, colours, textures and concise forms and lines in nature.
I really like these Holz puzzles by Thomas Schnur Product Design
At the Yorkshire Sculpture Park my children spent hours doing exactly this, with piles of slate, chopped wood and stones. Despite seven years difference in age, they were totally absorbed . . . wonderful.
